If you’re a parent, caregiver, or someone who works with kids who have ADHD, come join me this October for a four-part class designed to help you learn more about how ADHD makes daily life challenging for people, and how you can coach and support your child or student with ADHD to manage aspects of their ADHD, build confidence, and feel more positive about themselves.
We’ll meet once a week to discuss an ADHD topic and learn ADHD-strategies to help navigate daily life with more ease. You’ll leave each session with tools, handouts, and resources to bring back to review, share, and practice. We’ll have peer support in each class and by the end of October you’ll have new thinking and lots of resources to help the people you care about.
Weekly Topics
Week 1: ADHD, Executive Functions, and the Brain - a simple overview of a wildly complex system
Week 2: Keeping the Personal Batteries Charged and Managing the ADHD Energy Suck
Week 3: Impulse and ADHD: Like a Ferrari with Bicycle Brakes
Week 4: The Wall of Awful and Other Reasons it’s Hard to Get Motivated
Class Format
In general, each class will accomplish the following:
Learn about an aspect of ADHD and how it impacts daily life for some people
Identify common challenges in the daily life of people and families who live with ADHD
Discuss, plan, and practice strategies for navigating those daily life challenges
Create a plan for how to coach and develop those skills in your household, family, or group
Leave with additional resources to listen to, read, and explore (podcasts, books, etc.)
Class Logistics
Class dates are Wednesdays, October 9, 16, 23, 30 at 6:30PM Central / 4:30PM Pacific.
We’ll meet online via Zoom. Cameras may be on or off - do what you need to be most comfortable.
Classes are 60 minutes with an optional 15 minutes at the end for additional questions or discussion.
Classes will not be recorded, in order to create trusted space for conversation. If you will miss a class, contact me before or afterwards and I will provide the materials used in class, etc.
Class will be a blend of info-sharing (lecture-style but not in a droning-on kind of way 😉); questions and prompts offered to promote your self-reflection and peer sharing in the class (verbally or via the chat); and planning and action steps for implementing strategies at home.
There will be suggested pre-work for each class - approximately 15 - 20 minutes - in the form of short articles, podcasts, YouTube videos. The pre-work will tee-up each week’s topic with background information so we can jump into learning and strategy building.
$125 for the class series, due at registration. If the registration fee is a barrier to joining the class and getting support, please contact me (kate@kateholmesthompson.coach).
Why Zoom?
In-person class vibes can be awesome, however, online wins the day with convenience
In my ideal world, we'd meet in-person. But the truth is, an online class is more likely to be accessible to more people. We'll do our best to bring in the connection, peer support, and good group vibes by having time to connect, reflect on learning and experiences, share with others, ask questions, and offer ideas. Please consider what level and kind of participation is most comfortable for you that will also support your learning. All are welcome, no matter what level of participation. If you have any questions about participation, please contact me.
